Why do I always feel sleepy?

Excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) is characterized as a chronic feeling of excessive daytime fatigue. People with EDS have experienced a feeling of constant fatigue during the daytime even if they seem to sleep sufficiently each night.

Some sleep disorders make you unable to sleep soundly. This may result in insomnia or lead to poor sleep quality. If there are other symptoms, further assessment by the doctor about sleep that is certified by the Board can be very important.

Cause: 

Poor sleep habits

The most common cause of always feeling too sleepy or sleepy during the daytime may be the most obvious: you simply do not get enough sleep at night. But, consider the following poor sleeping habits, and if they apply to you, it's probably up to the change:

  • You may not know exactly how much you need to sleep.
  • You may choose not to sleep enough because of work or social obligations, sometimes referred to as sleep restrictions. 
  • You may be trying to sleep in a poor sleeping environment that is not beneficial for good sleep, such as for television at night.
  • You can have a horrible bedtime routine without preparing you for a good night's sleep.
  • You may not be able to follow any other simple instructions to improve your sleep, such as avoiding caffeine and alcohol close to bedtime. 

Any and all of this can make you too sleepy the next day, without any particular sleep disorder as a cause.

  Obstructive sleep apnea is caused by obstruction of the upper respiratory tract, in which the throat muscles collapse, the tongue falls back to the airway, or the enlarged tonsils and/or adenoids impede airflow. During an event of any, the brain must wake up to signal the respiratory system to continue to function normally. Often, people may not even realize they suffer from the OSA unless a relevant bed partner notices them about the nightly breathing stop.

Depressive

Depression is a condition that is said to cause abnormalities in mood-correction chemicals called neurotransmitters in the brain.   

People with depression tend to experience problems with sleep and energy levels. They can be difficult to sleep or wake up in the night. Some people who suffer from depression may also have difficulty waking up in the morning and sleeping for too long. Depression often makes people feel too much and unmotivated.

Chronic fatigue syndrome

Chronic fatigue syndrome is a disorder characterized by intense fatigue that does not improve at rest and can become worse when physical or mental exertion. The cause of this condition is unknown.   In addition to debilitating fatigue, a number of other symptoms that determine chronic fatigue syndrome include memory impairment or short-term concentration, muscle and joint pains, headaches, lymphadenopathy and frequent sore throat.

  The biological rhythm adjusts the sleep cycle – our consciousness is often influenced by daylight. To feel more awake, you should try to spend at least 30 minutes an outside day in natural sunlight. If you suffer from insomnia, sleep specialists recommend exposure to morning sunlight an hour each day.

Relaxing eyes 

This is how to run out of the first sleepiness that you can apply right at the seat. The intensity of continuous working with a computer can cause eye fatigue and a feeling of drowsiness. So, you should take your eyes off the screen and relax by:

  • Bring your eyes to the surroundings 
  • Perform exercises that help improve vision 
  • Use eye drops to reduce eye strain

  According to WebMD, Dr. Robert Thayer, University of California (USA) said eating a candy bar or 10-minute walk will help your body regain alertness. In particular, candy only offers energy in 1h, 10 minutes walk back to the power supply to 2h. This activity provides oxygen to your veins, brain, and muscles.
