While there is no such thing as a zero-calorie food, there are foods you can enjoy freely without having to worry about gaining weight that is good for your health.
According to nutritionist, Dr. Lisa Young, these foods usually fall into one of two categories: starchy fruits or vegetables.
Dr. Nutrition shared that there are several reasons why you do not gain weight when eating these foods:
- They are mainly made up of water.
- They are low in calories.
- They contain fiber, helping you feel and full.
Although these fruits and vegetables do not contain a lot of protein, they contain a lot of vitamins, antioxidants and other nutrients that are beneficial to your health. There are 14 foods you can eat comfortably without worrying about gaining weight.
However, even if you don't gain weight, it doesn't mean you're allowed to eat too much. Any kind of food, no matter how good, should be eaten moderately.
Celery contains 95% water, but that does not mean that celery has no health benefits. Celery contains potassium, folate, fiber and 30% of your daily vitamin K needs. There are only 6 calories in a serving. However, it is best to eat celery when fresh, the longer the vegetables lose the antioxidants.
Kale is low in calories - a cup of raw kale has only about 33 calories - but it contains nearly 3g protein of 2.5g of fiber per serving. It is one of the few foods that contains omega-3 fatty acids, a nutrient that is mostly found in fish. Like other lettuce, kale is also high in vitamins and folate.
Blueberries are high in potassium and may help reduce the risk of heart disease, blueberries are famous for being rich in antioxidants. A cup of blueberries contains 14% of the value of fiber that the body needs daily, moreover it only accounts for about 85 calories.
