Gone with the Wind is a deeply romantic tale of the American Civil War in the opinion of the Alliance. Specifically, it is the story of Scarlett O'Hara, a hard Southern man who survived the difficulties of the war and then managed to establish a successful business by leveraging the struggle to rebuild the south. Throughout the book, she is motivated by her unsatisfying love for Ashley Wilkes, an honorary man who is married happily. After a series of marriages and a failed relationship with other men, notably Rhett Butler the cover, she has changed her heart and determined to regain Rhett.
