Climate change is the most brutal disaster that could happen to our world, and it endangers a lot of animal, destroying the lives and habitats of many animal. The main cause of this global warming or cimate change is our daily waste and factory waste. Most animals are at the verge of extinction. Here is a list of 24 animals are endangered due to climate change.

Ringing alarm bells on how human activities are degrading resources fast, a UN-backed inter-governmental body noted that plastic pollution alone had increased tenfold since 1980; 300 to 400 million tonnes of heavy metals, solvents, toxic sludge and other wastes from industrial facilities are dumped into oceans and seas, annually. In fact, fertilizers entering coastal ecosystems have produced more than 400 ocean 'dead zones'.

At least 680 vertebrate species had been driven to extinction since the 16th century. More than 9% of all domesticated breeds of mammals used for food and agriculture had become extinct by 2016, with at least 1,000 more breeds still threatened.

List Of 24 Endangered Animal By The Cause Of Climate Change

Every species worldwide is impacted by climate change - rising temperatures and sea levels, less rain, and more droughts. By 2100, an estimated 50% of all the world’s species could go extinct because of climate change.

Here some species who are faced with serious risk of extinction due to global warming and climate change.

1. Polar Bear

Polar bears are classified as marine mammals because they spend most of their lives on the sea ice of the Arctic Ocean. The polar bear's population decreasing day by day because of the ongoing and potential loss of their sea ice habitat resulting from climate change. It was hence listed as a threatened species in the US under the Endangered Species Act in May 2008.

2. Bengal Tiger

The Bengal Tiger is found primarily in India with smaller populations in Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, China, and Myanmar. The creation of India’s tiger reserves in the 1970s helped stabilise the numbers, but growing poaching in recent years has once again put the Bengal tiger at risk. They're mostly found in the Sundarbans shared between Bangladesh and India - the only mangrove forests where tigers have found. The Sundarbans are increasingly threatened by rising sea-levels as a result of climate change.

3. Dolphin

Worldwide, dolphins face a variety of threats to their existence. Most pointedly and primarily, human activities and their related impacts have driven the Dolphin to the brink of extinction.  Climate change has a multitude of effects on the oceans, which is hurting marine mammals. Ocean temperature is rising day by day due to climate change and plastic waste into the sea.

4. Penguin

Climate change is a growing concern for penguins that live in Antarctica - the emperor penguin and the Adelie penguin. These species depend on sea ice for access to food and for places to breed. But the sea ice has been disappearing, and penguin populations along with it. A 2008 WWF study estimated that 50% of the emperor penguins and 75% of the Adelie penguins would likely decline or disappear if global average temperatures rise above pre-industrial levels by just 2 degrees celsius. This scenario could be reached in less than 40 years.

5. Mountain Gorilla

The world’s smallest population of mountain gorillas is also facing a severe threat. A bit more than half population live in the Virunga Mountains, a range of extinct volcanoes that border the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and Uganda. Humans have moved into areas near mountain gorillas and they have cleared land for agriculture and livestock. Mountain Gorillas live in forests at elevations of 8,000 to 13,000 feet, but their population is decreasing due to wildfire caused by rising temperature.

6. Sea Turtles

Seven different species of marine turtles grace our ocean waters, in the shallow seagrass beds of the Indian Ocean. Plastics, discarded fishing gear, petroleum byproducts, and other debris, harm and kill sea turtles by ingestion and entanglement.

7. Asian Elephant

Asian elephants can be found in southern and southeastern Asian, from India to Thailand to South China. The most significant threats to the Asian elephant are poaching and habitat loss. Their tusks are worth a lot of money on the black market, so large-tusked males are in constant danger of being poached. Also, forests are cut down in the name of development, that’s why elephants have been encroaching into urban spaces. With their habitat and food source destroyed, they will start feeding on farmers’ crops, which puts them at risk of being killed.

8. Rhino

Today, very few rhinos survive outside national parks and reserves due to persistent poaching and habitat loss over many decades. Two species of rhino in Asia—Javan, and Sumatran—are critically endangered. Successful conservation efforts have helped the third Asian species, the greater one-horned rhino, sustain and increase its numbers. Their status had changed from Endangered to Vulnerable, but the species is still poached for its horn and are dying due to impact of climate change.

9. Koala Bear

The koala is one of the world’s most iconic animal species, and they’re found nowhere else in the world but Australia! The destruction of habitat means koalas spend more time on the ground instead of trees, that makes them much more vulnerable to being hit by cars and attacked by dogs. Climate change and increasing global temperature cause wildfires in their habitat, which threatens their existence.

10. Butterfly

Butterfly populations are constantly in danger of disappearing. Habitat loss and climate change are two of the leading causes for the decline of the species.

11. House Sparrow

This beautiful bird is on the ‘Red List’ based on the findings of researchers in different parts of the world, including those from India. Recent studies have shown that the population of house sparrows is on the decline in many parts of the country. This trend is alarming, especially in the urban areas due to speedy urbanization.

12. Whale

Whales are at the top of the food chain and have an essential role in the overall health of the marine environment. Shipping activity and oil and gas development cause noise that can disrupt and impair hearing in whales. Such disturbance can exclude whales from critical feeding and breeding grounds, and disrupt their migratory paths.

13. Ringed Seal

Ringed seals are the smallest and most common Arctic seal. Ringed seals are circumpolar and found in seasonally ice-covered seas of the Northern Hemisphere and certain freshwater lakes. Climate change poses a threat to Ringed seals. They need snow to build the lairs where they give birth. These lairs protect their offspring from the cold and human disturbance. But over the past several years, the snow cover in the region has not been deep enough to create those lairs.

14. Giraffe

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, giraffe subspecies have been listed as Critically Endangered. Giraffe numbers fell by a massive 40% in the last three decades, and less than 100,000 remain today. Habitat loss through expanding agriculture, human-wildlife conflict, civil unrest, and poaching for their meat, pelts, and tails, are among the reasons for the decline.

15. Red Panda

There are only around 10,000 adult red pandas left in the wild, all thanks to excessive poaching and loss of habitat. Conservation efforts have included making red panda hunting illegal in certain areas, but their low birth rate makes it a slow process.

16. Black Spider Monkey

The black spider monkey is found in eastern South America in areas north of the Amazon River. Habitat destruction and being hunted for the Amazonian meat trade caused this species added to the endangered lists in 2014. Their population has been cut in half over the past 45 years. These monkeys are especially vulnerable to the effects of forest fragmentation.
