Sane is wanted by Bayern but they now admit that the Man City star might not be able to make the move back to his homeland

Bayern Munich are set to accept defeat in their pursuit of Leroy Sane.

The Manchester City winger was named as Bayern's top transfer priority earlier this summer, but they now accept that a deal is unlikely be done.

Club president Uli Hoeness has claimed that Bayern are being priced out of the deal because of the "insane" demands being made by City.

Sane has been struggling for starts under Pep Guardiola at City and a move to Bayern had looked to be an ideal move for all parties.

But City are in no hurry to sell the 23-year-old, who is still seen as one of the club's hottest prospects.

City want around £90million if they are to part ways with him and those figures are putting Bayern off.

Hoeness told Kicker: “You have to be a bit sceptical. It is unlikely that it will work.

“It's about sums, they're insane.”

Hoeness previously said that Bayern were not prepared to break the ban to get a deal done.

“We’re not playing Monopoly here," he said last month.

“We are a football club. We have reached a limit with €80 million, and I don’t think that we’ll exceed that in future transfers.”

Sane's talks over a new contract at City stalled earlier this year, leaving him with just two years left on his current deal.

City are willing to hand Sane a bumper pay rise in a deal worth £150,000-a-week with bonuses.

Guardiola does not want to lose the man they signed from Bayern's Bundesliga rivals Schalke for £37m in 2016 but also will not stand in Sane’s way if the 2018 PFA Young Player of the Year says he wants to leave.
