The world's most eco-friendly hotels have been revealed on Expedia and a UK hotel has proven a hit with guests
A UK hotel has been named one of the most eco-friendly hotels in the world.
The Green House in Bournemouth took seventh place in a global ranking on Expedia , not surprising when you consider its impressive focus on sustainability. (You can see the full list of the top 10 below).
Energy efficient lighting, free EV charge points in its car park and solar power for water heating are just some of the ways in which the Green House is trying to minimise its impact on the environment.
Guests are asked to re-use towels, a lot of the property's electricity is generated on site, and each of the 32 bedrooms is fitted with locally-made, 100 per cent wool carpets as well as bespoke eco beds.
Even the decor has an eco-friendly focus. Wallpaper is Forest Stewardship Council certified and made in the UK using vegetable inks, while local eco paint has been used around the hotel.
As for the wooden furniture? The materials come from trees felled by storms or tree surgeons.
Then there's the on-site brasserie which serves up some classic British grub - all local, fresh and (where possible), organic.
Beer and spirits are locally brewed, wines are selected dependent on the carbon footprint of the bottle.
Then of course the hotel's location has proven a hit with tourists thanks to its spot in the city centre, a short walk from the likes of Bournemouth Pavillion Theatre or the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum.
Oh, and there's the fact that you're right by Bournemouth Beach, hailed as the UK's best beach for 2019 .
The Green House's rooms also offer a homely feel, with cosy decor, comfortable beds and extra touches such as free WiFi, flat screen TVs, and pillow menus.
Stays at The Green House start from £139 a night on Expedia.
